Official Launch Of The World Islamic Economic Forum Foundation

Permanent Secretariat By The Prime Minister Of Malaysia

photeofficialKuala Lumpur , 9 January 2009 - Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia, today, officially launched the Permanent Secretariat of The World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) Foundation. The ceremony was witnessed by the Chairman of the Foundation, Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Musa Hitam and OIC ambassadors and the Trustees and the Management of the Foundation of which the Prime Minister is also the Patron.

Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said, “The newly established Permanent Secretariat and its dedicated staff will ensure that the distinctive and global stature of WIEF will be preserved.”

Tun Musa Hitam said, “The Secretariat will serve the annual and regional Forums of WIEF Foundation, and also enable us to make concerted efforts in achieving the Foundation’s objectives through various project oriented programmes and activities.”

The Permanent Secretariat began its operations in August 2008 and is gearing towards The 5th World Islamic Economic Forum, to be hosted by Indonesia in Jakarta on 1- 4 March 2009. The Annual Forum is expected to attract about 1000 participants from more than 50 countries including heads of states, government leaders, and captains of industries.

The Forum themed,” Food and Energy Security: Stemming the tide of global financial crisis “will take place at the Ritz-Carlton Jakarta-Pacific Place. Among the issues that will be discussed are Innovative Solutions to Global Challenge; Beyond Scarcity: Overcoming Global Food Crisis; Paving a Greener World: Creating a Future for Alternative Energy; Global SMEs- Business Beyond Boundaries; and Transforming Mediocrity into International Success

Two other events, WIEF Businesswomen Forum themed “Women Entrepreneurs: The Driving Force towards a Stronger Future” and the WIEF Young Leaders Forum themed “Charting Our Course: Leading Islamic Business and Finance Forward” will also take place on 1 March 2009.

Other events to be held alongside the 5th World Islamic Economic Forum are the Post Forum Programme entitled “Indonesia in Focus: Tourism and Investment in Indonesia” and the WIEF Exhibition which will showcase primary products, investment and business opportunities in Indonesia.

Dato’ Seri Abdullah also launched the new- look user friendly, interactive WIEF website.
